Herman - Diego Franssens

From behind his camera lens, Diego Franssens comes closer to his aging father, to the person Herman.

“How many people lose their parents without really knowing them? Ordinary people from ordinary Flemish villages disappear quickly, but this is my father. I don't want to immortalize or glorify him, but I do want proof that he exists. Just like my mother also existed. My father tries to hide, and I try to see him. Sometimes he wears fluorescent, but he hides extra hard."

As a photographer, Diego Franssens has been working for Flemish news media such as De Tijd, Knack and Humo, cycling magazine Bahamontes and various cultural houses for years. When Diego Franssens portrays people, he does so with an open mind and with full concentration for those who stand or sit in front of the lens, hang or jump, think or talk, laugh or cry.
