WATER - Edward Burtynsky

De Donkere Kamer is organizing the WATER exhibition by photographer Edward Burtynsky this summer at CC Scharpoord in Knokke-Heist. For this exhibition, The Dark Room has published its own book in collaboration with the publisher Hopper&Fuchs.

The WATER photo exhibition explores the controversial relationship between humanity and water: a fundamental part of our bodies, an essential resource for our lives and for our planet. Indispensable and of vital importance, water is the most precious liquid; the new gold. Edward Burtynsky's abstract photographs, sometimes elegant and sometimes haunting, float between the realms of painting and photography, creating a compelling portrait of water that poses an open question about humanity's relationship with nature.

Burtynsky (1955, Ontario, Canada) is renowned for his stunningly innovative photography. As an acclaimed photographer, he has witnessed the widespread impact of humanity on the planet for over 40 years. His work challenges us to engage in a crucial conversation about its consequences and what this means for the future.

Burtynsky's photographs are included in the collections of over 80 major museums worldwide, including the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Guggenheim Museum in New York, Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, Tate Modern in London, Los Angeles County Museum of Art in California, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
