Description
A fire destroys the parental home of photographer Karin Borghouts. The event causes a shock and an aftermath of all kinds of worries and practical concerns. Despite the feelings of chaos, destruction and irrevocability that the charred interior of the house radiates after the event, Borghouts is fascinated by the beauty of the destruction left behind. Faced with these conflicting feelings, Borghouts began to carefully document the house. Rarely is a subject so unexpected, so disturbing and yet so obvious for a photographer as this event. Her intuitive decision to photograph at this moment, in these circumstances, resulted in an extraordinary and moving series of images.
