Paris has about 600 dead end streets, cités, villas and squares. . Within the Périphérique, Paris is the most densely populated city in Europe, with more than 20,000 inhabitants per square kilometer. The photos provide a glimpse into a part of Paris that usually goes unnoticed. The photos were taken between 2011 and 2021. Most of them during a period as an artist-in-residence in the autumn of 2015, thanks to the Flemish government.

Karin Borghouts is an art and documentary photographer. She mainly photographs places; architectural spaces, interiors, city views, museums and buildings. Her work positions itself between photography and visual art and is rich in references to painting. Karin Borghouts has more than 50 group and solo exhibitions at home and abroad. Her highly sophisticated photos can be found in the collections of the Fotomuseum and the MAS in Antwerp, among others. Karin works on her own projects and carries out assignments for museums, cultural institutions, publishers, architects and artists. She enjoys working in the specific context of a space and has extensive experience in printing and publishing.
