Kaat Pype has been building a unique, authentic universe for a decade and a half. As a mixed media artist, she continuously reinvents herself, to the rhythm of her characteristic untempered freedom. She experiments with the most diverse forms of expression: performance, dance, photography, film, sculpture, installation and all possible crossovers. In her visual language - both her commissioned work and her free work - the so-called 'normal' transforms into something surprisingly strange and vice versa. Her work is imbued with a childlike wonder, a theatrical power, a dazzling imagination full of absurd, grotesque inspirations. There is often a sadness lurking beneath the surface, a loss, a pain. Pype feels and investigates the human psyche, the great emotions, existence in an attempt to understand them better. She shows and decontextualizes the everyday and self-evident, points out inconveniences that should remain under the radar, reverses gender roles, challenges expectations and undermines perspectives.
